These are the five methods in the practice of Ayurveda. Ayurveda works on the premise that any substance that enters the body has an effect on it. Panchakarma was devised to purify, pacify and eliminate the bad effects from the body.
The five karmas are:
Vaman Karma (emetic procedure):
This is the removal of doshas from the oral region or the mouth. This is mainly to remove the kapha dosha.
Virechan Karma (purgative procedure):
This procedure is done to remove the pitta dosha from the body. It is a cleansing procedure.
Anuvasan Vasti (soothing procedure):
This consists of ghee or fat-based medication. There are a number of conditions that require this procedure.
Virooh Vasti:
This performs the function of cleansing and purification
Nasya Karma:
This is the procedure of cleansing out from the nasal region. The nostril is considered as the pathway to the brain.
